Robin Long of Robin Ruth Design is joining us to share her creative journey and revolutionary approach to one of quilting’s most iconic blocks—the Mariner’s Compass. What began as a personal quest to make a compass quilt for her submarine officer husband evolved into a full-fledged design company, complete with rulers, books, and patterns that make compass blocks accessible to all—no paper piecing required!

Robin’s presentation, “Where Will Your Compass Take You?”, explores how her love of travel, architecture, and nature fuels her design work and inspires quilters around the world. Her quilts have been featured in Quiltfolk Magazine, The Quilt Show, and major exhibitions like QuiltCon and International Quilt Festival.

When she’s not teaching across the country, Robin lives on her family’s cattle ranch near Ritzville, WA, where she balances ranch life with studio time—often with her horse Major or mustang Mitey nearby.
